SLA (Stereolithography) or stereolithography is the oldest method for 3D printing.

The technology works with photopolymers or resins The working principle is still layer-by-layer object building, like FDM, but the building happens in a tank full of material. A layer of liquid photopolymer is laid on the platform and polymerized by a laser. When the first layer is ready, the platform is lowered one layer to start the next.

FDM printing

Printing with this technology has limited design freedom, due to support structures. After printing, the supports are removed manually.
